Volunteer Social Activities

In addition to countless informal and spontaneous get togethers of 826michigan volunteers, a whole range of activities–social, educational, and otherwise–are planned by our staff and our elite corps of uber-volunteers, the 826michigan Ambassadors.

  • The Reading Robots is 826michigan’s volunteer book club. Selections for the club are open-ended and based on nominations from members. Since February 2012, we’ve read a variety of fiction new and old, including The Marriage Plot, Cloud Atlas, The Art of Fielding, IQ84, and The Shadow of the Wind. Members of the Reading Robots receive a discount on the monthly selection at Nicola’s Books. The Reading Robots meet once a month on Saturday or Sunday afternoon. For more information about the Reading Robots, contact Communications Coordinator Amy Wilson at amywilson@826michigan.org.
  • Fourth Friday Board Game Night is an opportunity for 826michigan volunteers to get together and let their hair down. Board Game Night happens—you guessed it—every fourth Friday, from 7-9pm. It is a great way to meet new amazing folks, build community, and have fun with board games (which we think are anything BUT boring). Bring a friend, a game, a snack, and/or a beverage! No need to RSVP. We look forward to seeing you here at our Liberty Street headquarters!
  • Volunteer Social Activity of the Month: In addition to Board Game Night and the Reading Robots, we also do one other social outing a month. In the past, we’ve gone ice-skating, had movie nights, and even gone on a tour of the Big House. Check your Volunteer Email for details!
  • The 826 Ambassadors is the events and outreach committee comprised of 826 volunteers who are excited to expand our reach in the community. Ambassadors meet once per month, brainstorm volunteer recruitment and retention strategies, organize community outreach opportunities, plan and help with fundraisers, and table at community events.
