September's Supporter of the Month is Laura Wagner!

September 12, 2012 | 826 Blog Post

September Supporter of the Month Laura Wagner is an 826michigan board member and donor who has been a friend to us since the very beginning, lending us her invaluable skills and business expertise for years!

Soon Laura’s tenure on the 826michigan board will come to an end, but we know we will always count Laura, and her husband Steve, among our greatest supporters.

And here’s more from Laura, in her own words!

How did you hear about 826michigan and how did you become involved?

Back in the summer of 2005, I got a call from Keith Hood, who was the Board President of 826michigan, asking me to get involved. I was immediately attracted to the mission of the organization and in September of 2005 I became a member of the Board of Directors. Back then we were located on State Street and had a Monster Store in our entrance. Moving to Liberty was a big decision and with that we also changed our storefront to the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair. It has been fun to watch the organization grow and expand its reach far into the community!

What’s your favorite (non-826michigan) thing about life in the Southeast Michigan region?

I love all the amazing things to do in Detroit. My family loves to go downtown for Tigers games, visits to the DIA, classes at the Center for Creative Studies, trips to Belle Isle, and checking out all the booths at Eastern Market. We love the Belle Isle Aquarium and are thrilled that it will re-open soon, even if just for a few days a month. We are also thrilled that the Detroit Science Center has a plan to re-open again soon too. My husband and I love the Detroit Restaurant Weeks and have dined all over the city over the last few years.

Thank you, Laura, for your years of service to 826michigan! We can’t wait to see what the next chapter of our friendship will bring.
