Throwing Popcorn: Become a Film Critic of the Ann Arbor Film Festival
Taught by Donald Harrison & Jeff Meyers
Ages 11-14, 15 students
Thursday, February 12, 6-8pm
Do you love movies? Do you always an opinion, and love to share it? If you answered yes to these two questions, this is the workshop for you! In this workshop, we'll watch a handful of the short films slated to screen at the 47th Ann Arbor Film Festival, and then you'll learn how to effectively review a movie. What makes it even cooler? Your reviews will be posted on the Ann Arbor Film Festival website, and several will be featured in the AAFF monthly eNews leading into the festival (March 24 -29).
Donald Harrison is the Executive Director of the Ann Arbor Film Festival, the original North American independent film festival. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in social psychology and studied documentary film at Film Arts Foundation in San Francisco, where he also worked for several years. He has produced short films about boogie woogie, beverages, and rail sliding. Donald was raised to be a professional bowler and last carried a 220 league average.
Jeff Meyers is the lead film critic for Detroit's Metro Times and the managing editor of online magazines Concentrate and Metromode. Prior to moving to Michigan he was the Creative Director of a video production startup and artistic director of a theater company in Portalnd, OR. He has been a screenwriter, playwright, Seattle theater critic and finalist for the 2000 Oregon Book Awards in poetry. Once upon a time he was even a microbiologist. Jeff really likes pretzels.
