Workshops

We offer a wide range of free evening and weekend workshops designed to foster creativity, strengthen writing skills, and provide students with a forum for executing projects they might not otherwise have the support to undertake. Workshops range from the playful to the practical, and all are taught by volunteer writers, artists, educators, and publishing professionals in our community.

-2084

We now offer creative writing workshops in multiple spaces in southeast Michigan — in our writing lab on Liberty Street in downtown Ann Arbor, our writing lab on Winder Street in Detroit’s Eastern Market, and in many community partner spaces like the Ypsilanti District Library.

SUMMER 2019 WORKSHOPS!

WRITERS CLUBS!

Writers Club is a special and rewarding six session writing project. In this program, we create a supportive community of writers, where students work with the same volunteer in small groups of writers each week. Volunteers connect with students as they write, edit, and publish their own stories about whatever is important to them, with topics ranging from the silly to the serious. Stories can be composed and shared through a variety of genres this summer including in print, video, or comics.

At either program site, students can choose to come each one day a week or both days. We ask students plan to join us for the duration of the program, so they can experience the entire writing and publishing process.

WRITING WORKSHOPS!

Wriblox: Writing (and Building) Game Design
Ypsilanti District Library, Superior Branch
Wednesday, July 24, 5-6:30pm
Ages: 8-18

Writing is a way of expanding and exploring the worlds you create in the Roblox universe or other video game worlds. Roblox allows players to explore, build, and experience diverse settings and to solve problems. But the worlds are limited to what the game designers have created for us (or to what mods you create). Through your imagination and creative writing, you can add a new dimension to your gameplay and create new storylines and new settings. We’ll also spend some time building our game worlds with craft supplies provided by the library, to help our ideas come to life!
