Back-To-School Educator Q+A

August 22, 2022 | 826 Blog Post

826 is proud to work with educators in many learning settings, from schools to community centers to libraries.

This summer, we hosted our Theater Writers Club at Parkridge Community Center in Ypsilanti. Educators Liz Garaba and Loviesa Brown joined us to share more about the center and this important partnership.

Q1. Tell us about Parkridge Community Center and your role. How long have you been supporting PCC programs?

Liz Garaba:  Parkridge Community Center offers educational and enrichment opportunities to Ypsilanti youth with summer and after-school activities that are positive and structured. We collaborate with local organizations to provide resources to Washtenaw county residents with an intentional focus on our neighbors in the eastern region.

I have been the manager of College and Career Readiness since February 2020. I enjoy seeing students learning new concepts and strategies to enhance their understanding of the world.

Loviesa Brown: I have supported Parkridge programs for over 15 years! What I like most about it is seeing student growth after every program.

Q2. What was it like partnering with 826michigan this summer to host our Theater Writers Club?

LG:  It was a privilege to partner with 826! Our youth were engaged and excited to write, and they enjoyed making their writing come to life through performance.

LB:  I really enjoyed partnering with 826. The kids loved the Writers Club!

Q3. Lastly, what advice do you have for students as they return to school and fall extracurricular activities?

LG:   Continue to work hard, and learn something new every day.

LB:   Stay focused, and always remember: practice makes perfect!

Thank you SO MUCH to Parkridge Community Center for partnering with us this summer! We can’t WAIT to collaborate again soon.
