Inside 826michigan’s writing and tutoring lab on Liberty Street, The Lunch Room makes mouths and hearts water. It’s because the inviting eatery serves up a bountiful portion of community giving along with its delectable vegan fare. Last month, for five Saturday night dinner services in a row, restaurateurs Phillis Engelbert and Joel Panozzo donated a whopping ten percent of their night’s proceeds to 826michigan. That’s an outstanding show of generosity from any business, but especially a restaurant that just celebrated its third birthday. Impressively, The Lunch Room’s commitment to giving doesn’t just stop with the students and robots at 826michigan, it’s embedded into the fabric of the restaurant’s operational makeup. Our 3,600 students are simply the latest beneficiaries of a business that in its own words, “embraces freedom, creativity, fun, egalitarianism, social justice, and community.

With 826michigan’s omnivorous staff still slightly outnumbering those fully committed to vegetarian and vegan consumption, that’s a big deal. Once again, you don’t have to simply take our word for it–the proof is in the expanded offerings of The Lunch Room’s vegan delights. There’s the restaurant and bar that 826michigan typically visits just around the way in Kerrytown, and a bakery and cafe located inside Ann Arbor’s Huron Towers.

Whenever you give them a visit, (which we hope is really soon), let them know 826michigan sent you. We’re so grateful for all they do for our students and community and look for many different ways to tell them so.

Cheers and more cheers to The Lunch Room, 826michigan’s August 2016 Supporter of the Month!
