Achieving a tenth anniversary of service to students across Southeastern Michigan is no easy feat and we simply could not do it without tremendous support. That support comes not only from the volunteers you see working alongside students each day, but also from funders who generously allocate dollars to keep our programs free to all of the students and teachers we serve. This month, we are proud to highlight the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation (AAACF) for the consistent financial support they’ve given to 826michigan since 2006.

The AAACF is a foundation with headquarters in Downtown Ann Arbor that is dedicated to promoting arts and culture, supporting education, helping seniors, and safeguarding health and human services for citizens throughout Washtenaw County. They have been a dedicated partner in ensuring 826michigan’s services reach students in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti investing more than $56,000 in our programs over the course of nine years. Just this year, they helped to fund our creative writing tables with a $6,000 grant from their Youth Council.

Isabella and Ricky

Those creative writing tables became the place where our creative writing intern, Ricky, inspired one of our most shy students, Isabella, to blossom into a prolific comic book writer. There are countless other stories of volunteers helping students emerge into their best writer selves-—and none of them is possible without the support of funders like the AAACF.

We remain grateful to the Ann Arbor Area Community foundation for their investment in our young writers. Thank you, AAACF for all you do!
