Happy Birthday to US!

August 25, 2009 | 826 Blog Post

That’s right, it’s 8/26, OUR DAY. For each of the four amazing years we are celebrating, we have four amazing ways you can celebrate with us.

  1. Shirt.woot.com! Shirt.woot.com is observing our birthday in a pretty special way. Famed graphic novelist, artist, designer, and friend of 826 Chris Ware (yes, THE Chris Ware) has designed a t-shirt especially for 826michigan, and Shirt.woot.com is selling it today to benefit us!

Go to Shirt.woot.com right now. You can order the t-shirt for $10, including shipping.

Did it sell out already?? DON’T WORRY. You can order the t-shirt tomorrow, or the day after that, or the day after that, and it still benefits us, it’ll just cost you $15.

    Onward Robots!

Yes, that’s the robot from Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth.

  2. Our annual birthday picnic! Join us at West Park band shell tonight from 5-7pm for a fun and informal picnic. Bring a picnic, your friends, and any picnic accoutrements you like. West Park is located off Seventh Street between Huron and Miller. Hope to see you there! We’ll have at least two black dogs there, one of which is a puppy. It is an event not to be missed.
  3. Donate to us! You like what we do? You want to celebrate our existence? Nothing says “I LOVE this non-profit” like money! Donate $826. Donate $82.60. Donate $8.26. Donate any denomination you like. Donate here.
  4. Shop BOTS! I don’t know if you’ve heard, but ONWARD ROBOTS is THE catch phrase these days. Sure, it’s how I’ve been signing off on emails for a year or so now, and it’s our kickball team name, but now, it’s a Chris-Ware-designed t-shirt, AND, last week, we bought the domain name www.onwardrobots.com for our store website. (Forthcoming. There’s nothing there now, sorry to say.) Pop into the robot store this afternoon! Purchase a Robot Heart, or a Robot Soul, an Emotion Upgrade, a tote bag, or anything that tickles your bot’s fancy. All proceeds from the Liberty Street Robot Supply & Repair benefit 826michigan, so it’s sort of like a present to us (AND to you).

Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us! ONWARD ROBOTS.
