It’s the first day of school in cities all across the nation and we could think of no better partner to celebrate as Supporter of the Month in this exciting season than Warby Parker. In addition to designing chic eyewear that is available at prices to fit most budgets, Warby Parker has opened a retail location just around the corner from 826michigan in downtown Ann Arbor that is committed to directly supporting the neighborhood—especially our students! It’s called the Warby Parker Pencil Room and it’s stocked with vibrant pencils designed by CW Pencil Enterprise all for the benefit of 826michigan’s talented young writers.
Inside the Warby Parker Pencil Room, shoppers are greeted by warm, knowledgeable staff who help them find a great pair of new glasses and enthusiastically converse about 826michigan and what we do for the community. In the four weeks since the Warby Parker Pencil Room has opened, staff has introduced many new people to the work of our students, freely distributed information to families about our programs, taken under serious consideration getting a copy of our latest student publication In the Clouds Over Ypsilanti on display within their store, and best of all, directed many to the Pencil Room wherein ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of all pencil purchases are donated to 826michigan! To date, well over $1,000 has been raised for 826michigan. That’s a lot of pencils, friends! We encourage you to stop in and see the beautifully-designed store for yourself—not only to support 826michigan, but also to experience the warmth of a retailer in the community that makes spending your dollars feel good.
