Where Is It Coming From? Reviewed by the New York Times

Dear Friends,

Day after day, the 826michigan staff and I have the opportunity to be amazed by the insight, intelligence, and heart displayed by the school-aged students in our programs. Because we serve more than 3,000 students each year, our staff and volunteers feel rich in this heart-warming opportunity, and we’re always seeking ways to to widen the audience for our students’ incredible ideas and writing. Yesterday, that happened!

Click here to read a review of 826michigan’s latest publication, Where Is It Coming From? in the New York Times Books section. This fall, best-selling author and 826 National co-founder Dave Eggers illustrated several stories written by elementary-aged students in 826michigan’s after-school creative writing club at Detroit’s Boggs School. The result is a strange and funny collection of their stories and his drawings that captures what’s ordinarily impossible to convey: the energy and charm of these very young people. Where Is It Coming From? is a special window into the city of Detroit and into childhood.

2014 was another remarkable year for 826michigan. I’m endlessly grateful for each of you and the donations of time, funds, and expertise you’ve contributed toward our students’ success in school and in life. As we prepare for 2015, 826michigan’s tenth anniversary year, I hope you will join me and our staff, our board of directors, and our hundreds of local adult volunteers in contributing toward our students’ further achievements. Funds raised at the end of the calendar year help us enormously as we plan our programs in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor, and Detroit in the year ahead and are deeply appreciated.

Whether you give $500 today or $5 per month, you’ll be making an important difference for our organization and our students. Thank you for considering a year end gift.
