826michigan's SECOND ANNUAL STUDENT WRITE-A-THON THIS WEEK

August 22, 2012 | 826 Blog Post

Who would have thought that all you needed to be a writer was the proper headgear? 826, that’s who! And what better time to unveil the secret of author-hood (note: clever hat pun!) than at the Second Annual 826michigan Write-A-Thon. Teen writers of all stripes and stages are welcome to come spend 8.26 hours writing, thinking about writing, talking about writing, and writing some more, and receive and personalize an author hat, as well as share food. The whole thing starts at 10:30am and ends at 6:56pm on Friday, August 24. So plan on coming down or telling a teen writer you know about the event. We want the place to be filled to the brim (note: second clever hat pun!) so spread the word!

Will Purves, a local writer, educator, and teacher who has worked with aspiring writers for many years, is collaborating with a team of 826michigan all-star students to run the WRITE-A-THON here at 826 this week. He is an experienced writing coach, culinary artist, Harry Potter scholar, game builder, and an 826 workshop leader and tutor (Volunteer of the Month in November 2010).

You can sign-up to participate or volunteer in this year’s WRITE-A-THON.
