Oh, Won't You Come to our Birthday Party?

August 6, 2007 | 826 Blog Post

While it is true that we opened our doors in June of 2005, can you blame us for instead choosing to celebrate our birthday on the one day of the year that’s kind of ours?

826michigan turns two (oh, the terrible twos, just wait until you see it: stubbornly refusing to stop inspiring creativity) on Sunday, 8/26. Join us at Wheeler Park from 12 noon until 3pm. (Wheeler Park is on Depot Street in Ann Arbor, between Fourth and Fifth.) It’s free! It’s open to the public! IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY!

What else is it? A picnic! Doesn’t everyone love a picnic on a Sunday afternoon? Please bring your own picnic lunch (although sharing is, of course, encouraged), and we’ll supply dessert for everyone. We also encourage you to bring: frisbees, badminton accoutrements, kites, baseballs and mitts, roller skates, puppies, croquet and bocce ball sets, and friends.

The highlight of the picnic, at any rate, will likely be the 826 student readings. Get a glimpse of the amazing work that has been created during our drop-in writing sessions all summer! AND…there will also be surprise musical guests! We don’t want to spill the beans, but this much is true: they’re going to be really, really good.
