Wrap Up: Shadow Art Fair, Art Fair; Looking Ahead: Ashley’s, 8/26

Wrap Up: Townies have learned to hate Art Fair, but we here at 826 have learned to love it. This may be due, in part, to Ypsilanti’s stellar Shadow Art Fair event, which featured local artists showing truly incredible and inspiring wares. SAF happened the weekend before Art Fair, so it was a nice warm up. Perhaps it got us in the mood, because 826 rocked AF this year. First and foremost, thank you thank you thank you to C. Jason, without whom none of it would’ve happened. He took Art Fair by the reins, as it were. In addition to building and decorating the booth, and staffing it, he also made a pamphlet on How to Cook a Monster (don’t), and remained cheerful despite functioning on what I can only guess was about an hour of sleep a night. Thanks also to our wonderful volunteers—Rich (who somehow managed to handle C. Jason; he is Canadian, after all), Shawn, Jeff, Birawer, Holly, Jessica, Rahul, Erin, Alex, Sarah (Schaefer), Sarah (Smarch), Sarah (Schirmer), Sarah (H. Doyle), Olive, Josh, Alejandro, Megan, Alex (she deserves to be thanked twice), Heather, Chris O, Tony, Kim, Meg, Rachel—for working the booth. Apparently Art-Fair-goers are not just interested in art on sticks!

Looking Ahead: Please join us Wednesday night between 5 and 9pm at Ashley’s Restaurant and Pub (338 S. State St.) for dinner! A portion of your meal goes to 826! Click here to download the voucher. Hope to see you there!

Looking Ahead, Volume 2: Mark your calendars! Saturday, 8/26 (get it?), we’ll be having our one-year anniversary/meet and greet/back to school/end of summer picnic! Join us from 2-5PM at the West Park band shell. The idea: get a bunch of volunteers, students, families, teachers, etc., together to sit around on blankets and celebrate 826mi’s first year in existence! We’re getting together some local musicians to provide entertainment, and West Park also has a playground. Bring your friends and family! BYOPB (bring your own picnic basket)!
